First Ride Fund
FAQs
-
The First Ride Fund is a nonprofit fund dedicated to giving kids on a budget the opportunity to realize their motocross dreams!
-
As often as we can! The more bikes we fund the more kids can enjoy the benefits of the sport we all love!
-
We stick to the Quad-State (MT, ID, WA, OR) area.
-
We have two main reasons. First, because we think the sport of motocross teaches lessons that are difficult to learn in any other sport and we want to ensure that as many kids as possible have the opportunity to learn those lessons. Second, because we think competition begets greatness! We want to see who the fastest kids in the Quad-State area are, not just the fastest kids of the few that can afford it.
-
It starts in one of three ways.
Cash donations - Cash donations go into the general fund and we use that money to buy used donor bikes or buy parts to make a donor bike we already have race worthy.
Bike Donations - Depending on the condition, we can either refurbish the donated bike to be race worthy or sold or sell the salvageable parts from it to add to the general fund.
Other Donations - Depending on the condition/value, we may be able to accept other items to sell or trade for cash, bikes, or parts.
Once we have a race worthy bike we find a good First Ride Fund candidate (Candidates apply HERE). and we assign the donor bike to them for as many race weekends as they want for a full calendar year. The bike stays on site. We will do all the regular maintenance between races and make sure the bike is fueled up. To cover fluids/filters candidate's parents donate $10 into the general fund at check out.
After the calendar year we may opt to give the candidate and his parents the first right of refusal to buy the bike at cost or we will assign the bike to a new candidate or list the bike for public sale and put any profits in the general fund.
